Nicolas Cage Criticizes Amazon Over AI Waiver After Spider-Noir Cancellation
Actor Nicolas Cage said he is unlikely to work with Amazon again after refusing to sign an AI waiver for the cancelled series Spider-Noir, and hinted at a future role on HBO's True Detective.
Actor Nicolas Cage told a panel at New York Comic Con that he declined to sign an artificial-intelligence waiver requested by Amazon for the Prime Video series Spider-Noir. > "Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI. I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay," he said.
Amazon cancelled the superhero series after one season, despite the show earning 11 Emmy nominations and recording 2.6 billion minutes of viewing in its first six weeks. Cage added that he hopes to collaborate with emerging Gen-Z filmmakers, citing director Kane Parsons of the horror film Backrooms as an example. He also indicated interest in returning to television, noting that Spider-Noir was his first leading TV role and suggesting he may appear in an upcoming season of HBO’s True Detective. HBO did not immediately comment on the potential casting.
