George Clooney mourns death of Presley Gerber, calls it family tragedy

Résumé

Actor George Clooney described Presley Gerber's death as a devastating loss for their families, recalling his long-standing friendship with the Gerbers.

Actor George Clooney said Presley Gerber’s death was "the worst thing that could ever happen with family" during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Friday. He called the loss "one of the most devastating things that’s happened to our family" and noted the impact on the Gerber family.

Clooney, accompanied by his wife, human-rights lawyer Amal Clooney, spoke about the close ties between the two families. Presley’s parents are supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, who co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand with Clooney. The families have been friends for decades.

Presley Gerber, 27, died on Sept. 20 at a sober-living facility in Santa Monica after an apparent overdose, according to authorities. A family representative asked for privacy during the difficult period. Sources said he had been admitted to the Resolutions Living facility the same weekend he was found unresponsive, with first responders reporting cardiac arrest and overdose.

Kaia Gerber, Presley’s 25-year-old sister, has been described as struggling to cope with her brother’s death. She reportedly referred to Clooney as "Uncle George" and said he spent considerable time talking with Presley, offering support.

Friends say Clooney remains committed to supporting Cindy and Rande Gerber in the coming months and years.
