Bezos predicts AI could enable three-day workweeks and more single-income households

Resumen

Jeff Bezos said AI-driven productivity may allow many people to work fewer days and could lead to a rise in single-income families, while noting uncertainty for investors.

Jeff Bezos told Fox News that advances in artificial intelligence could raise economic productivity to a level where some workers choose to work only three days a week. He added that the resulting wealth could allow many families to revert to a single-income model, reducing the need for two earners and potentially creating hiring challenges for companies.

Bezos said the technology itself is real but acknowledged that the rush to invest in AI makes it hard for investors to distinguish successful ventures from those that may fail. He described the situation as "tricky for investors" because both good and bad ideas receive funding.

Amazon, which Bezos founded, is allocating more than $200 billion to capital expenditures this year, largely for data-center expansion, even as it has eliminated about 30,000 corporate positions since late last year. Bezos also expects his space company Blue Origin to benefit from the AI boom, citing a recent $10 billion funding round that valued the firm at $140 billion.

Other CEOs have made similar forecasts about shorter workweeks, with Nvidia’s Jensen Huang suggesting a four-day week, JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon envisioning 3.5 days, and Bill Gates even mentioning a possible two-day week. Elon Musk has gone further, predicting AI and robotics could lead to a "universal high income" that diminishes the need to work.
