Person Injured and Two ICE Agents Shot in Bronx Encounter

Résumé

A person and two ICE agents were wounded during a shooting in the Bronx after federal immigration officers confronted a target, officials said.

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents opened fire during an encounter in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon, injuring a person they had approached and two of the agents, according to preliminary information from a law-enforcement source. The individual was taken to a local hospital, remained conscious and the injuries were not deemed life-threatening. The two agents also received medical treatment at the same facility.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots at the scene in the Marble Hill area, just north of Manhattan. The New York Police Department said it was not present at the location and did not participate in the incident.

"We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident," Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement. "New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why."

The Department of Homeland Security has been contacted for comment.
