Trump claims his record justifies a Nobel Peace Prize nomination

President Donald Trump said his administration's actions, including negotiating releases and opposing Iran's nuclear program, merit a Nobel Peace Prize, despite criticism of his foreign-policy record.

President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he believes his actions merit this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, which the Norwegian Nobel Institute will award on Oct. 9. He cited the resolution of eight conflicts, the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon as reasons for his claim.

"I settled eight wars, and big ones," Trump said, adding that no other president had achieved comparable results.

Trump also referenced the ongoing war in Ukraine, noting his administration’s attempts to end the conflict, and compared his candidacy to former President Barack Obama’s 2009 award. He suggested that awarding him would reflect on the Nobel Committee’s credibility.

The president’s remarks come after a year in which the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who later presented the award to Trump during a visit to the White House following a U.S. operation in Caracas.

Critics have highlighted that Trump has initiated new military actions in Venezuela and Iran since taking office, challenging his assertions of peace-building achievements.
