Nvidia nears $6 trillion market value as AI chip demand fuels rally

Resumen

Nvidia's shares have risen 28% this year, bringing its market capitalization close to $5.8 trillion, driven by strong revenue outlook and an expanded share-repurchase program.

Nvidia's stock has climbed 28% so far in 2026, lifting its market value to just under $5.8 trillion and putting the company within striking distance of a $6 trillion valuation, a level no public firm has previously reached, Bloomberg reported. The surge is attributed to a robust revenue forecast and the authorization of an additional $150 billion for share repurchases. Chief Executive Jensen Huang said the buyback "reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead" and described Nvidia as "the world's first and only growth value stock."

"Nvidia is attractive on both a growth basis and a value basis, and it looks like a haven from any damage higher rates could do to the economy," said Jim Awad, senior managing director at Clearstead Advisors, which holds Nvidia shares.

Analysts noted that expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes have shifted capital toward large-cap technology firms perceived as insulated from higher borrowing costs. Larry Tentarelli of Blue Chip Daily linked the broader semiconductor recovery to Meta Platforms' Muse AI agent, saying the rotation back into semiconductors and megacap stocks benefits Nvidia.

The rally follows a period in late March when Nvidia's shares fell 11% amid doubts about AI infrastructure spending. Since then, market sentiment has moved from questioning AI's commercial viability to broader societal implications.

Nvidia's financial involvement in the AI ecosystem has also expanded, with equity investments in AI companies rising to $99 billion by late July from about $7 billion a year earlier. The company plans to commit more than $40 billion in 2026 to frontier AI labs, infrastructure providers, and photonics firms, and it has agreed to acquire open-source AI model platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, a transaction expected to close in the first half of 2027.
