A 2026 Range Rover leased by composer Harry Gregson-Williams was driven by a teenage driver who collided with a parked car, killing Nobu Malibu chef Ryo Uchimiya. Police are investigating the incident.

A teenage driver crashed a 2026 Range Rover into a parked vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, killing chef Ryo Uchimiya, 51, of the Nobu restaurant, authorities said. The crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, with the driver reportedly speeding before crossing the road’s fog line and striking Uchimiya’s car, which was occupied by the chef in the back seat.

Department of Motor Vehicles records show the Range Rover was leased by British-born film composer Harry Gregson-Williams, 64, who has lived in Los Angeles for decades and is known for scoring numerous Hollywood films. In a brief telephone comment, Gregson-Williams said, "This family is grieving just as the other family."

The teenager, identified by police but not named because of his age, remains under investigation and no motive or connection to the composer has been disclosed. Uchimiya, who had worked at Nobu for about 25 years, was found dead at the scene from blunt-force injuries and is survived by his wife and two sons.

The accident adds to concerns about the hazardous stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu, a 21-mile segment that has averaged roughly four traffic-related deaths per year over the past decade.
