SEC dominates CBS Sports college football rankings with Alabama entering top four

Alabama rose into the top four of the CBS Sports 138 ranking of all FBS teams, reinforcing the SEC's presence near the summit of college football. The conference now holds three of the four highest positions, five of the top ten and nine of the top twenty slots.

Florida fell out of the top ten after a lackluster loss to Missouri, while the rankings show a crowded middle tier, with teams from No. 20 to No. 40 separated by only narrow margins on average ballots. Iowa sits at No. 20 and Nebraska at No. 28, yet every team in that range has an average ballot ranking better than 25.0, indicating roughly 30 teams are considered "top-25 quality" by the panel.

The weekly rankings are compiled from ballots submitted by CBS Sports and 247Sports analysts, whose votes are averaged to produce the final list. Notable movers include Arizona, which jumped 11 spots after defeating Cincinnati, and Minnesota, which climbed 10 places following consecutive wins over Washington and Michigan. Conversely, Virginia Tech and Penn State each fell more than ten spots after recent defeats.
