The two met at a Nashville event in 2022 and began dating in early 2023. In a prior interview, Wilkins said she was drawn to Patel’s honesty and character. Both are identified as conservatives; Wilkins has hosted a show on the Rumble platform and served on the board of the National Rifle Association.
Patel’s tenure as FBI director has attracted political attention, including criticism from House Judiciary Committee Democrats over his use of private-jet travel for personal trips. Patel has stated that personal travel expenses are paid by the director, similar to other cabinet members.
