Canadian rock singer Sass Jordan dies at 63
Sass Jordan, a four-decade-long rock and blues vocalist, died on Oct. 2, 2026, after a serious illness, prompting tributes from fans and fellow musicians.
Canadian singer Sass Jordan died on Oct. 2, 2026, at the age of 63, her family announced on her Facebook page. The post said she passed away surrounded by family and described her as an “inimitable force of nature.” No official cause of death has been released.
Jordan, who was born in Birmingham, England and raised in Montreal, built a career that spanned more than 40 years. Her 1988 debut album "Tell Somebody" earned a Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist, and her 1992 release "Racine" produced several international hits. She later explored blues music, with the album "Rebel Moon Blues" reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Blues chart, and her final record, "Bitches Blues," issued in 2022.
"She was such a powerhouse bluesy vocalist," wrote musician Ronnie Lyon on Facebook.
"I had her on my show several times for various projects. Very talented singer and very nice person," broadcaster Eddie Trunk added, noting she had performed with Taylor Hawkins early in her career.
"She was so lovely and kind and big-hearted and she did everything she could to help me break into the scene," fellow artist Paul Woida said, recalling opening for her.
In September, Jordan cancelled the remainder of her 2026 tour due to a serious medical condition, and her team issued a statement saying she needed to focus on recovery.
Jordan also served as a judge on "Canadian Idol" for six seasons and portrayed Janis Joplin in the stage production "Love, Janis," while touring with acts such as Aerosmith, Joe Cocker, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen and AC/DC.
