Bears start Tyson Bagent at quarterback after unconventional practice stunt

Résumé

Chicago will have Tyson Borgan Bagent as the starting quarterback against the New York Jets after a brief on-field experiment with both Bagent and Case Keenum during practice.

Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that Tyson Borgan Bagent will start at quarterback on Sunday against the New York Jets, following a practice drill in which both Bagent and veteran Case Keenum took snaps on the opening drive. The Bears used the play to give Bagent his first-team reps, after quarterback Caleb Williams missed his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury.

"Bagent will be the starter," coach Ben Johnson told the team on Wednesday and asked the information to be kept internal, according to a report from Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

The experiment kept the Bears from matching the 1997 Jacksonville Jaguars' record of three different starters in four games, but Bagent will now lead the offense for the upcoming matchup.
