Isaac Slade Appears as Surprise Guest on Ed Sheeran's Atlanta Loop Tour Show
Former The Fray vocalist Isaac Slade performed a brief set as a surprise guest at Ed Sheeran's October 3 concert in Atlanta, marking the first guest appearance since several opening acts left the tour amid controversy over Macklemore's removal.
Ed Sheeran welcomed former The Fray frontman Isaac Slade as a surprise performer at his Loop Tour concert in Atlanta on October 3. Slade, the first guest act since multiple opening artists withdrew following the removal of rapper Macklemore, delivered a short set that included "How to Save a Life" and "You Found Me." He addressed the ongoing Gaza conflict, urging the audience to seek a "middle place" and emphasizing the need for balanced understanding to achieve lasting peace.
The surprise appearance was announced only as a "special guest" to fans arriving at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Slade later told the crowd he was "honored to be here" before speaking on broader global issues. He said, "Peace is not a blank canvas that we need to guard and be polite. It holds enough beauty, enough tragedy, enough sorrow, enough joy and life if we learn how to integrate it and hold each other in balance. We will find a way through this together."
The guest spot follows a series of departures by supporting acts—including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and members of the backing band Beoga—after Macklemore was dropped from the tour for shouting "Free Palestine" during performances at MetLife Stadium. Macklemore issued a statement saying the decision was made by Sheeran's team and that neither artist should be portrayed as a victim. Sheeran later apologized to fans in Philadelphia, acknowledging mistakes and expressing regret over the controversy.
Podcaster Joe Rogan also commented on the dispute, arguing that Macklemore's remarks were mischaracterized and were intended to highlight a humanitarian crisis rather than convey anti-Semitic sentiment. The Atlanta concert may indicate how Sheeran will manage the remainder of the U.S. leg, which ends on November 7 in Tampa before the tour moves to Latin America and concludes in Mexico City in December.
