Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls for petition to change social-media harassment policy after fiancé's death

Resumen

Gypsy Rose Blanchard urged her Instagram followers to sign a petition for “Kenan’s Law,” which would require platforms to review repeated harassment reports, citing the online abuse her late fiancé Ken Urker faced.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard used an Instagram post on Sunday to ask her followers to sign a petition she calls “Kenan’s Law,” a proposal aimed at altering how social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment. She said the measure would allow a pattern of abusive posts, videos and comments to be examined collectively rather than individually.

“In honor of Ken, I am asking for your support for Kenan’s Law. 🤍,” Blanchard wrote.

Blanchard said her fiancé, Ken Urker, experienced extensive online scrutiny that she believes crossed into targeted harassment and cyberbullying before his death. She added that many reports were dismissed as “no violation.”

“One post viewed alone may not tell the whole story—but hundreds of posts, videos and comments directed at one person can reveal a pattern that deserves meaningful review,” she wrote.

She emphasized that the proposal is not intended to limit criticism of public figures, but to ensure that repeated attacks are properly evaluated. Blanchard described her advocacy as a way to turn personal loss into a public purpose.

“I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening,” she said.

Ken Urker was found unresponsive at a Louisiana home on his 34th birthday, October 1. Earlier reports indicated he was discovered by a family member after failing to respond to a birthday text from Blanchard. Subsequent investigations reported the presence of drugs, paraphernalia and a handgun at the scene. Urker’s sister, Autumn Urker, has publicly expressed displeasure with Blanchard’s statements and questioned the accuracy of her account of the circumstances surrounding her brother’s death.

Blanchard and Urker’s relationship had been described as on-and-off; they first became engaged in 2018 while Blanchard was incarcerated for the 2015 murder of her mother. After a brief split, Blanchard married another partner in 2022 while still in prison, filed for divorce in 2024, and later resumed her relationship with Urker.
