President Donald Trump said a new task force will coordinate federal oversight of artificial intelligence, naming several officials to lead the effort after a meeting with major AI companies.
President Donald Trump announced the establishment of a "Super Intelligence Force" (SIF) following a meeting with executives from leading U.S. artificial intelligence firms. In a post on his social platform, Trump said the force will work with the federal government to maintain America's leadership in what he termed "Super Intelligence," a phrase he urged agencies to adopt instead of "artificial intelligence."
The task force is to be headed by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, with FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon under secretary for research and engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor also serving as senior leaders. The group will report to the president and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
At the White House meeting, representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia and SpaceXAI signed a voluntary safety accord that includes four layers of internal and external audits, board reviews and regular coordination to develop standards. Trump described the agreement as "morally binding" and noted the companies' commitment to self-policing.
The administration plans to appoint an AI czar within the next few days to oversee implementation of the accord and broader regulatory efforts.
