12-Year-Old Killed and Three Injured in Baltimore Park Shooting Over Parking Dispute

Summary

A shooting at Leon Day Park in Baltimore left a 12-year-old girl dead and three adults wounded after an argument over a parking spot escalated into gunfire.

A gunfight broke out near Leon Day Park in Baltimore on Saturday, killing a 12-year-old girl and injuring three adults, police said. Police Commissioner Richard Worley said two shooters are being sought and investigators recovered two different types of cartridges at the scene. The victims included the girl, who was reportedly watching a youth football game, and a 25-year-old woman who was with her, as well as two men aged 23 and 28. The adult injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Worley told a news conference that the incident stemmed from a dispute over a parking space. Mayor Brandon M. Scott expressed outrage, noting that the argument between the men resulted in the child's death.

Coach Mark Brown of the Charm City Buccaneers youth football league said the shooting occurred during a game and emphasized that the league had operated for 29 years without similar violence. He attributed the incident to “outsiders” and said it could have been avoided.
