49ers owner Jed York receives six-game suspension and $500,000 fine from NFL
The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six regular-season games and fined him $500,000 after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges stemming from an Ohio arrest.
The National Football League announced Friday that San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York will miss six regular-season games and pay a $500,000 fine for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy. The suspension includes three games York already missed while the league investigated the matter, and he is eligible to return on Oct. 20.
York was arrested on Aug. 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, during a prostitution sting. He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, was sentenced to concurrent one-day jail terms, fined $1,150 and required to complete an online course. The $160 seized by police was donated to a human-trafficking task force.
In a statement released through the 49ers, York apologized to his family, the team’s personnel, fans and partners, saying the incident was “an inexcusable mistake” and that he takes full responsibility. He added that he hopes to demonstrate accountability to his sons and earn back trust over time.
York, who has overseen the 49ers since 2008 and became principal owner in 2024, led the franchise to Super Bowl contention and oversaw the construction of Levi’s Stadium.
