Man accused of killing former MP faces terrorism charge over alleged plot against Nigel Farage

Resumen

Police have charged Joshua Kerry with preparing terrorist acts, including a plot targeting Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, following his indictment for the murder of former lawmaker Ann Widdecombe.

British police said on Friday that 28-year-old Joshua Kerry has been charged with preparing terrorist acts, an allegation that includes a plot against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The charge relates to alleged activity between May 31, 2024 and July 8, 2026, according to Counter Terrorism Policing.

Kerry was previously charged with the murder of 78-year-old Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP who was found dead at her home in southwest England after being struck 21 times with a hammer.

"This investigation has been led by a dedicated team of detectives, analysts, and forensic experts, working on multiple lines of enquiry, which has resulted in this very serious charge," Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans said.

"We have worked closely with police to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court, and we will continue working with them as their investigation progresses," Chief Crown Prosecutor Frank Ferguson added.

Kerry is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London next Wednesday on the terrorism charge. Widdecombe's death, reported on July 9 in Haytor, Devon, adds to a series of attacks on British lawmakers, following the murders of David Amess in 2021 and Jo Cox in 2016.
