Body-camera video shows Pennsylvania police arresting Luigi Mangione at McDonald’s

Resumen

Released footage captures officers confronting Mangione, identifying him as the suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO killing, and discovering a firearm, magazine and suppressor in his belongings.

Police body-camera video released by NBC News shows officers confronting Luigi Mangione outside a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and later searching his backpack and vehicle for weapons. The officers ask Mangione to lower his face mask, and one officer immediately identifies him as the suspect in the Dec. 4 shooting of UnitedHealthcare chief Brian Thompson.

"That’s 100% him," the officer says, followed by another officer confirming the identification.

Mangione, who had been recognized from photos released after the Manhattan attack, is questioned about an alias he used at a hostel. He denies the name and provides his real identity. Officers then search his backpack and find a gun magazine, prompting another officer to repeat the identification.

"It’s him," the officer says.

After being taken to a police station, investigators discover a handgun, a suppressor, an additional magazine concealed in underwear, and a journal with handwritten notes.

"He has a handgun, suppressor, his cellphone in a Faraday bag, and a checklist for today. Tomorrow he’s supposed to do an intel check-in and get a survival kit," an officer reported over the phone.

Mangione had previously pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges after posing as a wealthy investor to obtain details about the investors conference where Thompson was killed. In court, he said he traveled to New York intending to shoot Thompson because of his personal experience with the healthcare system. Prosecutors note that Mangione had no business relationship with UnitedHealthcare.
