AT&T urges iPhone 18 Pro Max owners to install iOS 27.0.1 amid cellular problems
AT&T notified customers that iPhone 18 Pro Max users on its network may experience call, text and data failures and recommended an immediate iOS 27.0.1 update, though reports indicate the fix may be ineffective.
AT&T sent a text alert to iPhone 18 Pro Max owners on its network, warning that some devices cannot complete calls, texts or data sessions, including emergency calls to 911. The carrier advised users to install iOS 27.0.1 immediately via Settings > General > Software Update and to contact AT&T or Apple with questions.
Apple’s release notes for iOS 27.0.1 cite a Face ID fix but do not mention a remedy for the AT&T connectivity issue. Users on forums and social media have reported persistent or intermittent loss of service, with many devices switching to SOS mode. The cause of the problem has not been confirmed, and Apple has not issued a public statement.
The U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the only model equipped with a Qualcomm cellular modem, whereas other 18 series models use Apple’s C2 modem. It is unclear whether the modem difference contributes to the issue.
Analysts suggest that if the problem is software-related, a subsequent update such as iOS 27.0.2 may be required; a hardware defect would represent a larger concern. AT&T and Apple have said they will provide further information as it becomes available.
