Windows 11 26H2 Update Reduces Memory Use on High-RAM PCs, 8 GB Systems See Little Benefit
The latest Windows 11 26H2 update lowers RAM consumption on machines with large memory capacities, but users with 8 GB of RAM report little or no improvement.
Microsoft has begun rolling out the Windows 11 version 26H2 update to users worldwide. Early reports indicate that the patch reduces memory usage on systems with substantial RAM, though devices equipped with 8 GB of RAM appear to see little change.
A Reddit user who runs a PC with 48 GB of RAM posted that the update cut his RAM usage by about 2 GB. Another Reddit contributor with a 32 GB system shared a Task Manager screenshot showing a drop from 9.1 GB to 7.5 GB after installing the update.
In contrast, a user with an 8 GB Windows 11 machine reported that memory consumption remained high, using roughly 96 percent of the available RAM after the upgrade. An X post from a technology professional echoed similar findings, noting no noticeable reduction on lower-memory hardware.
The differing results suggest that while the 26H2 update improves memory efficiency on high-capacity PCs, Microsoft may need to address optimization for lower-end systems to ensure consistent performance across all configurations.
