Dallas Cowboys acquire Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from Pittsburgh

Resumen

The Dallas Cowboys have secured a trade for cornerback Joey Porter Jr., sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to the Steelers, outbidding interest from the Detroit Lions.

The Dallas Cowboys reached a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The trade package includes a 2027 sixth-round selection and a 2028 second-round selection. The Lions had also shown interest in Porter, but the Cowboys' offer was higher.

Porter, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, is reportedly seeking a contract exceeding $30 million per year, which would rank him among the league’s highest-paid cornerbacks. He has started 41 games in three seasons, recording 31 passes defended, three interceptions, 165 tackles and Pro Football Focus grades of 64.3, 55.3 and 70.1 from 2023 to 2025. The former second-round pick is viewed as a reliable man-coverage cornerback, though he has been penalized 38 times over his career.

Detroit currently relies on D.J. Reed as its primary starter, while rotating Roger McCreary, Ennis Rakestraw and Rock Ya-Sin for the opposite cornerback position. The Lions have allowed the most passing yards per game (299.3) and the sixth-highest passer rating (110.2) through three games this season. With the NFL trade deadline set for Nov. 10, the Lions could still pursue roster changes.
