Harper's late home run powers Phillies to 4-3 win over Braves in Game 2
Bryce Harper hit a game-tying home run in the seventh inning after a defensive misplay, and Alec Bohm delivered a go-ahead homer in the tenth as Philadelphia tied the Wild Card series with Atlanta.
Philadelphia rallied to beat Atlanta 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday, evening the Wild Card Series at two games each. Bryce Harper, who had opened the scoring with a first-inning single, misplayed a fly ball in right field that resulted in a go-ahead run for the Braves. He later hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, followed immediately by a Kyle Schwarber blast, to knot the game at 3-3.
The Phillies' defensive adjustments after acquiring Luis Arraez had moved Alec Bohm from third base to first and Harper from first to right field, a shift that contributed to several miscues in the seventh inning, including a missed catch by Harper and a bunt that Bohm failed to turn into an out.
In the top of the tenth, Bohm redeemed the earlier error with a solo home run that proved decisive. Reliever Andrew Painter then delivered three scoreless innings to secure the win.
"Schwarb, Harp, after we give up those two, they got momentum," interim manager Don Mattingly said, noting the importance of the back-to-back homers. Braves manager Walt Weiss praised left-hander Dylan Lee for handling the Phillies' left-handed hitters, despite the two home runs he surrendered.
The series will move to a decisive Game 3 on Thursday afternoon.
