Former 'American Idol' Contestant Convicted of Murdering Wife in Ohio
A Miami County jury found Caleb Flynn guilty of aggravated murder and related charges after he shot his wife, Ashley Flynn, in their home, with sentencing set for October 5.
A Miami County, Ohio jury convicted former "American Idol" contestant Caleb Flynn of aggravated murder and eleven additional counts, including tampering with evidence, after a 2.5-hour deliberation. Prosecutors said Flynn shot his wife, Ashley Flynn, in the back of the head while she slept and staged a fake break-in at their Tipp City home.
Evidence presented at trial included a photograph saved on Flynn’s phone on Feb. 2 that showed Ashley posing beside him with his face crossed out, as well as more than 100,000 text messages exchanged with a 24-year-old woman he was involved with. One message read, "I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow," which prosecutors said indicated premeditation.
Ohio prosecutor Paul Watkins told jurors, "The evidence never pointed to an intruder. The evidence pointed to the defendant."
Flynn, who appeared on "American Idol" in 2013, faces life imprisonment without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 5.
