Macklemore Announces Sold-Out Free Palestine Tour in Europe
Macklemore said all three dates of his Free Palestine Tour in Dublin, Paris and London sold out shortly after the announcement, while Ed Sheeran cancelled his own shows due to weather.
Macklemore said the three concerts scheduled for his Free Palestine Tour in Dublin, Paris and London were sold out shortly after he announced the dates last week. The rapper posted on Instagram that the shows were organized quickly and that he hopes they demonstrate how musicians can support the Palestinian cause and raise funds.
"I’m honestly blown away. We put these shows together fast and in community, believing that musicians can stand in solidarity with Palestine, use the stage to raise funds and show what collective action can look like," he wrote. "When those in power try to silence our calls for liberation, art will always be a form of resistance." He thanked audiences in the three cities and said additional lineup details would be released soon. The tour, running from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30, follows Ed Sheeran’s recent cancellation of his own concerts because of severe weather and a separate controversy involving Sheeran’s decision to drop Macklemore from his tour after remarks about Palestine. Sheeran later said the removal was a promoter’s decision after pressure from venue owners, and other opening acts also withdrew from the tour.
