Patriots quarterback Drake Mayen's performance under scrutiny after early-season struggles
Analyst Chad Graff and coach Mike Vrabel expressed concerns about Drake Mayen's confidence and play execution following a series of low-efficiency outings.
Analyst Chad Graff of The Athletic said that quarterback Drake Mayen appears to be struggling mentally as well as physically after a series of poor performances. Mayen has recorded a negative drop-back EPA in six consecutive games, dating back to last season, and posted a 40 percent drop-back success rate against Jacksonville, the fifth-lowest of the week.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told a radio interview that Mayen needs to calm down and simplify his approach, urging the team to "relax" and avoid over-complicating each play.
Through the third week of the season, Mayen ranks 32nd in fantasy points per drop back, trailing players such as Daniel Jones and Cam Ward. The Patriots may consider alternative quarterback options on the waiver wire ahead of their Week 4 matchup against Buffalo.
