U.S. Reimposes Blockade, Halts Iranian Oil Shipments Through Strait of Hormuz
The Trump administration has reinstated a naval blockade that has stopped Iran's oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz, alongside expanded sanctions and escort operations.
The United States has reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, effectively stopping oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. After a brief suspension under a memorandum of understanding, the blockade was restored, and officials say it has halted Iran's export of approximately two million barrels of oil per day that previously passed through the strait. The administration is also pursuing broader sanctions and increased escort operations in the region to limit maritime traffic linked to Iran.
"The blockade has been reinstated and is now preventing Iranian oil from moving through the Strait of Hormuz," a spokesperson for the administration said.
The move follows a series of measures aimed at curbing Iran's ability to generate revenue from maritime trade amid ongoing tensions.
