Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to outline his city initiatives and explain his limited communication with President Trump, focusing on a housing project in Queens.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined Jimmy Kimmel in Brooklyn to talk about his agenda for New York City. He highlighted proposals such as a city-run grocery store, new public restrooms, sewer improvements and a "Parents’ Night Out" program, describing his role as "the greatest job in the world" that lets him help residents.
When Kimmel asked about Mamdani’s relationship with President Donald Trump, the mayor said the two have disagreements but share a common interest in the city. He said their first meeting in November was framed around New Yorkers’ needs rather than personal rapport, and that subsequent discussions have focused on federal support for the Sunnyside Yard development in Queens, which aims to add about 12,000 homes and create roughly 30,000 jobs.
"One of the other things the president mentioned that we spoke about, that I care very deeply about, is Haitian New Yorkers. They’ve had their protected status ended, and I really believe we need to do whatever we can so they have stability. They’re part of the fabric of this city," Mamdani said.
Kimmel suggested Mamdani send a selfie to the president; the mayor declined, stating his priority is housing.
"Jimmy, I love you, but I love housing more," Mamdani replied.
