Longtime Republican Voter Says She May Switch to Democratic Ticket

Résumé

A 77-year-old lifelong Republican expressed disappointment with the party and President Trump, saying she might vote for Democrats in the upcoming election.

A 77-year-old woman who has voted Republican for decades told SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Wrap-Up Show that she no longer feels loyalty to the party after recent events. She said she supported Donald Trump until his appointment of former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi, and that Bondi’s subsequent dismissal over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation deepened her frustration.

"We’re just, as a country, we’re just screwed because it doesn’t matter who you vote for. It does not matter," she said, adding that she is considering either abstaining from voting or casting a straight-ticket Democratic ballot.

The interview highlighted growing discontent among some Republican voters. Recent polls show President Trump’s overall approval has fallen to the low 30s, with his handling of the Iran conflict and inflation receiving particularly low marks. Among Republicans, approval of Trump’s performance on the Iran war dropped from 73 % in March to 60 % in the latest survey, and a Reuters/Ipsos poll recorded a decline from 82 % to 73 % in a single week.

Analysts note that these trends could affect the November midterm elections, where Democrats currently lead Republicans in national congressional voting intentions by eight points, according to a CNN/SSRS poll.
