Buffalo defeated Los Angeles 24-16 despite committing five turnovers, relying on a strong defensive performance to secure the win.

Buffalo held off the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 on Sunday after a sloppy first half that saw the Bills commit five turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions. The offense, which had looked unstoppable in the first two games of the season, struggled early, but the defense limited the Chargers to just three points after the initial touchdown.

"The house was on fire today," Bills head coach Joe Brady said, describing the turnover-laden performance. He added that the mistakes were a reflection of his coaching and emphasized the need for the team to respond.

The Bills’ defense, still in its third game under coordinator Jim Leonhard, forced three turnovers after the first half and held the Chargers to 56 rushing yards on 15 carries. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson intercepted Justin Herbert in the fourth quarter and called for patience as the unit continues to develop.

"People have been accustomed to the old Bills that were together for six, seven, eight years. This group’s only been together for three games, so give us time to gel," Gardner-Johnson said.

Running back James Cook rebounded with 154 rushing yards and a game-winning touchdown, while quarterback Josh Allen, who threw two interceptions, contributed a rushing touchdown and a crucial fourth-down pass to Ty Johnson. Allen acknowledged the team’s luck in the win.

"100 percent, you’re not going to win very many games turning the ball over that much," Allen told reporters.

Defensive tackle Ed Oliver returned from a hip injury and helped contain the Chargers’ run game. Oliver noted the shift in responsibility from the offense to the defense, saying the win was a team effort.

"Hey, Josh carried us for two weeks, and he didn’t have to answer for us. We’re just playing together, playing team ball. We got the win. That’s all that matters," Oliver said.

Brady praised the locker-room character for staying together despite the setbacks and said the victory demonstrated the team’s resilience.

"The defense kept us in the game early… the fact that we were able to still find ways to win football games speaks to the character in that locker room," he said.
