Taylor Swift to receive inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honor as Travis Kelce misses ceremony due to NFL game

Résumé

Taylor Swift is set to be honored at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 27, while her husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, will be playing an NFL game in Miami and will not attend the event.

Taylor Swift will be recognized with the first MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27, in Los Angeles. The award acknowledges her contributions to music video production and visual storytelling. Swift, who has nine VMA nominations, will also promote her new release "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," a four-track continuation of last year’s project.

The ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. ET, several hours after the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 3 game against the Miami Dolphins in Miami Gardens, Florida. Because the NFL match and the awards are on opposite coasts, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelby will not be able to attend the VMAs.

"We’re honored to recognize an artist who has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling," an MTV spokesperson said.

Kelce previously attended the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles in March when Swift was honored. This will be the first time the couple will miss each other's events due to scheduling conflicts.
