Broncos rally to beat Rams but coach seeks stronger starts

Summary

Denver overcame a 16-0 halftime deficit to defeat Los Angeles 30-26, while head coach Sean Payton said the team must improve its early-game performance.

Denver rallied from a 16-0 halftime hole to win 30-26 over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night at Empower Field. The Broncos scored 30 points in the second half, with quarterback Bo Nix accounting for three touchdowns, two through the air and one on the ground. Safety Talanoa Hufanga intercepted two passes in the second half, returning one 66 yards for a touchdown, a play the coach called the "play of the game."

The victory marked Denver's second straight win in one-score games this season, extending a league-record streak of close finishes from the previous year. However, head coach Sean Payton said the comeback should not become a habit. > "I'm pleased with how we responded, but we can't rely on that in bigger games. We have to find a way to play better earlier," he said.

Denver managed only 67 net yards in the first half compared with the Rams' 273, and Nix completed six of 12 passes for 53 yards before the break. The Broncos were outgained overall, 482 to 257 yards, and ran 22 fewer plays, but their defense limited Los Angeles to one red-zone conversion in four attempts.

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton described the win as a "diamond" forged under pressure, while Nix said the finish reflected the team's DNA. Payton added that the first-half struggles remain a concern and that the squad must improve its early-game execution.
