Broncos defeat Rams 30-26 after rally in second half
Denver overcame a 16-0 halftime deficit to beat Los Angeles 30-26, improving to 2-1 while the Rams fell to 1-2.
Denver rallied from a 16-0 halftime hole to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 30-26 on Sunday night, giving the Broncos a 2-1 record after a loss in Week 1. After a scoreless first half, quarterback Bo Nix connected with Pat Bryant for a touchdown and a two-point conversion, cutting the deficit to 16-8. Denver tied the game early in the third quarter on an eight-yard pass to Nate Adkins and a successful two-point try, before taking the lead on a one-yard touchdown run with 47 seconds remaining.
Los Angeles responded with a field goal that left 14 yards to the goal line and a final-play interception by Matthew Stafford, but the Rams could not convert the remaining time. The game featured several controversial penalties, including a pass-interference call on Rams cornerback Josh Wallace that extended Denver's winning drive, and an illegal-hands penalty that kept a third-down play alive.
The Rams, missing receiver Puka Nacua and defensive end Myles Garrett, fell to 1-2 after leading early but failing to sustain offensive production. Stafford threw his 33rd career pick-six, tying an NFL record, but later delivered a 48-yard touchdown pass to Konata Mumpfield to retake the lead before Denver's final score. Both teams cited the need for better execution as the season progresses.
