Trump to Host Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for Private White House Dinner

Résumé

President Donald Trump confirmed a private dinner with Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, who has recently called for slowing AI development and advocated for international standards.

President Donald Trump confirmed to Fox News that he will hold a private dinner with Dario Amodei, chief executive of the artificial-intelligence firm Anthropic, on Sunday evening at the White House. The meeting follows Amodei’s recent public statements urging a slowdown in the pace of AI model improvements and calling for international standards to manage emerging risks.

Amodei outlined his concerns in an essay, writing, "We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain." He also addressed the U.N. Security Council last week, emphasizing the need for industry cooperation.

During the interview, Trump said the discussion would focus on maintaining the United States' lead over China in AI development, noting that he had spoken briefly with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the topic. He added that a broader White House meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson and other AI executives is scheduled for Tuesday.

Anthropic is currently involved in a legal dispute with the Pentagon over the department’s designation of the company as a supply-chain risk for defense procurement, a ruling that an appeals court upheld last week.
