Dolphins lose rookie running back De'Von Achane to knee injury in loss to Chiefs

Resumen

Miami's rookie running back De'Von Achane was ruled out after a non-contact knee injury early in the Week 3 game against Kansas City, leaving the Dolphins short-handed at the position.

De'Von Achane left the Dolphins' Week 3 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs after less than five minutes of play due to a non-contact knee injury. The rookie planted his left leg to cut right during a first-quarter run, felt the leg give out, and was tackled after his momentum slowed. He recorded three carries for 17 yards before exiting.

Coach Jeff Hafley said the team was still gathering information and could not provide a clear outlook on Achane's condition, adding, "Still gathering information, and hopefully I'll have more for you tomorrow. To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment, but I can't give you any other details until I have them."

Medical staff escorted Achane to the locker room, where he was able to walk under his own power. He returned to the sideline in his uniform and appeared in good spirits, according to sideline reporter Melanie Collins.

With Achane unavailable, backup running back Ollie Gordon II moved up the depth chart but also left the game in the second quarter after reporting cramps. Gordon, the only other active running back on Miami's roster, had scored the team's first touchdown on a three-yard run in the first quarter. The Dolphins now rely on relatively inexperienced players to carry the rushing load.
