USC suspends linebacker Desman Stephens II for one game after hit on Oregon quarterback
USC announced that linebacker Desman Stephens II will miss the upcoming game against Washington following a hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore that led to his ejection and a one-game suspension.
USC said linebacker Desman Stephens II will sit out the team’s next contest against Washington after he was ejected for a hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore during Saturday night’s game. The university released a statement calling Stephens’ actions "unacceptable" and said he understands the mistake and will learn from the consequences. The school also expressed wishes for Moore’s full recovery.
Stephens issued an apology, acknowledging that his reaction after the play was "completely inappropriate and inexcusable" and that celebrating while a player received medical attention could not be justified.
Coach Lincoln Riley was questioned about allowing Stephens to return to the sideline for the second half; he responded, "Because he’s on our football team," before the university confirmed the suspension.
