Taylor Swift to Receive Inaugural Artist Director Honor at 2026 MTV Video Music Awards
The 36-year-old singer will accept the first Artist Director Honor at Sunday’s MTV VMAs, marking her 31st Moon Person trophy and breaking a tie with Beyoncé.
Taylor Swift is slated to appear at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, where she will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honor. The award, created specifically for her, coincides with the debut of her new single “Patient Zero” and three additional tracks from the deluxe edition of her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The honor will be Swift’s 31st Moon Person trophy, surpassing the previous record she shared with Beyoncé. Executive producer Bruce Gillmer said the award expands on MTV’s existing Vanguard category and highlighted that the concept originated from external input. He added that the timing aligned with Swift’s recent releases and her desire to have a prominent role at the ceremony.
Swift co-directed the accompanying theatrical video with Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. A teaser featuring actors Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell has been released, with the full video set to premiere during the broadcast. Swift has previously earned VMAs for directing videos such as “The Man,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero” and “Fortnight.”
“Have an artist-driven accolade that recognizes video and creative talent within video,” Gillmer said, describing the purpose of the new award.
