Nebraska defeats Michigan State 31-14 in first road and Big Ten test
Nebraska beat Michigan State 31-14 at Spartan Stadium, marking its first road game and first conference matchup of the season, while quarterback Anthony Colandrea posted a 44-yard touchdown pass.
Nebraska recorded a 31-14 victory over Michigan State on Saturday at Spartan Stadium, its first road outing and inaugural Big Ten contest of the year. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who transferred from UNLV after a strong Mountain West season, threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Kwazi Gilmer for the game's opening score. The Huskers totaled 31 points while limiting the Spartans, who are 2-2, to 14.
The win answered several pre-game questions about the team's ability to perform away from home and against conference opposition. Nebraska's defense forced three turnovers and held Michigan State to 39 rushing yards, as the Spartans attempted 28 passes. Injuries affected both sides, with Michigan State's Cam Edwards and Nebraska's Jamal Rule each leaving the game.
Coach Matt Rhule praised his squad after the game, saying, "I’m really fired up for the guys. It’s a good first step … I never felt our guys panicked. They kept attacking. That’s the kind of team we’d like to be."
Nebraska improves to 4-0 overall and looks to continue its early-season momentum in its next matchup against Maryland.
