Documentary on Elizabeth Holmes Receives R Rating for Graphic Content and Language

Summary

The upcoming film "You Can See Everything," co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, was assigned an R rating by the Motion Picture Association due to graphic nudity and language.

The documentary "You Can See Everything," which follows former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, has been given an R rating by the Motion Picture Association. FilmRatings.com cited "some graphic nudity" and "language" as the reasons for the rating. The film, scheduled for theatrical release on Oct. 16, was first publicized through a teaser showing Holmes speaking directly to co-director Nathan Fielder, denying any intent to deceive.

In the clip, Holmes, now 42, tells Fielder, "I’m not that person. I can promise you that. I don’t have anything to deceive you on; of course, I’m not deceiving you," before adding, "I’m always being real." The exchange was recorded weeks before Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, where she is serving a sentence for wire fraud and conspiracy.

Social media users reacted to the rating, with some speculating about the nature of the nudity and others expressing surprise that a documentary received an R classification. The film was kept largely under wraps until its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, after Fielder spent time living with Holmes and her family in San Diego in 2023 to document her daily life. Holmes shares two children, son William, 5, and daughter Invicta, 3, with partner Billy Evans.
