UNC Chancellor Reaffirms Support for Coach Bill Belichick Amid Program Investigation
University of North Carolina Chancellor Lee Roberts said the administration continues to back head coach Bill Belichick, noting that support carries expectations for conduct as the school addresses recent staff departures.
University of North Carolina Chancellor Lee Roberts told reporters that the administration and board of trustees remain supportive of head football coach Bill Belichick, but emphasized that such support is contingent on meeting conduct and behavior standards. > "Coach Belichick continues to have our support, the support of the administration and of the board [of trustees]," Roberts said, adding that the coach understands the expectations attached to that support. The university is responding to an investigation that led to the resignations of former general manager Michael Lombardi and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, both of whom were close to the head coach. Roberts indicated that the conduct of the former staff members fell short of the program’s standards and that the school is implementing policies, training, and monitoring to ensure compliance. UNC is scheduled to play Notre Dame next weekend after a recent 2-1 start to the season.
