Russell Holds Off Verstappen to Win Azerbaijan Grand Prix by 0.196 Seconds

George Russell claimed victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finishing 0.196 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen. The British driver built a sizable lead after a strong start and a clean first stint, but a safety-car deployment following Alex Albon's crash erased his advantage. Russell defended his position on the final laps, holding off Verstappen's late charge to secure his first win since the Austrian round in June.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli recovered from a 16th-place start to finish fifth, aided by the safety-car periods that bunched the field and allowed him to switch to soft tyres. He progressed steadily, passing several rivals and capitalising on incidents involving Lando Norris and others.

Verstappen, who started eighth, moved up the field and set the race's fastest lap in an attempt to close the gap, ultimately finishing second. Isack Hadjar completed the podium in third after returning from injury, while Charles Leclerc ended fourth after losing positions to the Red Bulls.

Lewis Hamilton was the only driver besides Russell to finish where he started, highlighting Ferrari's pace challenges. The race featured multiple incidents, including a multi-car collision at Turn 1 after the second safety-car restart that involved Alpine teammates Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, as well as McLaren's Lando Norris.

"After the double-yellow I had no boost, had no power," Russell said after the race.

"I love getting taken out by my teammate," Lawson remarked sarcastically following the incident that eliminated Alpine's points finish.

Other notable results included Esteban Ocon finishing eighth, Ollie Bearman seventh, and Williams earning a point through Carlos Sainz after a recovery drive.
