College football analysts predict upsets in Week 4 matchups
Experts from USA TODAY Sports forecast several potential upsets in Week 4, highlighting games involving Texas, LSU, Michigan, and Oregon among others.
College football analysts anticipate a number of surprise results in the Week 4 slate, which features six games between ranked teams and several other contests that could affect the College Football Playoff picture. In the SEC, three unbeaten top-10 teams—Texas, Georgia and Mississippi State—face opponents that could alter the conference hierarchy.
The Oregon-USC game is seen as a pivotal West Coast clash, with analysts split on the outcome but many expecting Oregon to prevail in a high-scoring duel. Texas is projected to narrowly defeat Tennessee, while Texas A&M is predicted to rebound from a recent loss by upsetting LSU on the road.
Iowa is identified as a possible road upset over Michigan, a result not seen since 2010, based on improvements to its offense and the play of quarterback Hank Brown. Mississippi State is expected to face a challenging environment at Florida’s stadium, with the Gators favored to win a close fourth-quarter battle.
Other notable predictions include West Virginia defeating Oklahoma State in the Big 12 and Boise State overcoming Western Michigan in a non-conference matchup.
"Oregon reasserts itself as a College Football Playoff contender," wrote analyst John Brice, noting quarterback Dante Moore's four touchdowns and 50 rushing yards. "Texas A&M rebounds from a loss at home to Kentucky by stunning LSU on the road," said Paul Myerberg, citing quarterback Marcel Reed's performance. "Iowa could escape Ann Arbor with a statement win," observed Matt Hayes, highlighting the offensive coordinator's impact. "USC has waited four-plus seasons for the payoff of hiring Lincoln Riley," Blake Toppmeyer added, predicting a victory for the Trojans over Oregon.
