Manchester City Does Not Dispute Majority Verdict in Premier League Financial Breaches Case
Manchester City acknowledged it has been informed of an independent panel's decision finding it guilty on most of the 115 financial breach charges, while the club and the Premier League say the process remains confidential and ongoing.
Manchester City confirmed it has been notified of an independent panel's decision that found the club guilty on 114 of 115 financial breach charges brought by the Premier League, but did not comment on the specifics. The club issued a statement saying the Premier League process "remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality," and reiterated its position from a February 2023 statement that it has respected due process.
The Premier League declined to comment on the matter, describing the proceedings as a private and confidential process. Sources told ESPN that the club sought an injunction to block early reporting of the verdict, a claim the club denied.
The case, which began in September 2024 at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London, concluded after 12 weeks of deliberations in December 2024. It concerns alleged financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018, with the league alleging the club failed to provide accurate financial information. Potential sanctions could include fines, points deductions, or expulsion, and the club is expected to appeal any guilty findings.
Manchester City previously faced UEFA sanctions in February 2020 for breaching financial fair play rules, receiving a two-year European competition ban and a €30 million fine, later reduced to €10 million after the Court of Arbitration for Sport intervened.
