Meta unveils Muse Charm AI keychain for holiday launch

Résumé

Meta announced a small AI-enabled keychain called Muse Charm, which will allow users to interact with its Muse agent and is slated for release by December.

Meta introduced a new AI accessory at its Connect conference, the Muse Charm, a compact keychain equipped with a fingerprint sensor that lets users engage with the company’s Muse AI agent without a phone or computer. Muse is described as an autonomous assistant capable of performing tasks such as sending messages on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

The device is not yet available, but Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it will be ready for shipment by December, positioning it as a potential holiday gift. Interested consumers can sign up for email updates on the product.

Since its launch in early September, the Muse app has been downloaded more than half a million times. A recent zero-day vulnerability was patched without apparent impact on user interest. Industry observers note that agentic AI is viewed as a key direction for future development, though privacy and security concerns persist after several high-profile incidents involving AI agents from various companies.

Zuckerberg has argued that the AI sector does not need a coordinated slowdown, suggesting that each lab should self-regulate. He highlighted Meta’s multi-month effort to develop the technology behind Muse. Critics have previously raised concerns about Meta’s AI-enabled smart glasses, particularly regarding potential misuse of facial-recognition features.
