49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk fined by NFL for beer-chug celebration
Kyle Juszczyk was fined $14,926 by the NFL for a celebration that the league deemed an offensive demonstration during the 49ers' 35-13 win over Miami, and he has filed an appeal.
The NFL announced that San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk will pay a $14,926 fine after his post-touchdown celebration in the 35-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins was classified as an "offensive demonstration." The league said the imitation of chugging a beer could be viewed as being in poor taste. Juszczyk, who has used the same gesture throughout his career, has appealed the penalty.
"Your imitation of chugging a beer constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably be construed as being in poor taste," the NFL statement read.
Juszczyk, nicknamed "Juice," recorded two receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown in the game and contributed to a rushing attack that amassed 95 yards and three touchdowns, helping the 49ers improve to 2-0. Former NFL player J.J. Watt defended the celebration on social media, suggesting it was a nod to Juszczyk's nickname.
The fullback, a ten-year Pro Bowl selection, is under a $3.7 million contract for the season and is seeking to keep the fine from affecting his earnings.
