A new Economist/YouGov survey reports President Donald Trump’s approval at 35%, a five-point drop, as establishment media and pollsters continue to push negative narratives. Despite these numbers, Trump’s base remains energized, and Democrats’ lead in congressional races reflects media-driven polarization ahead of the midterms.
President Donald Trump’s approval rating is reported at 35% in an Economist/YouGov poll released on September 22, ending a five-week period of reported increases. The survey, conducted September 18-21 among 1,402 registered voters, shows a five-point decline from the previous week’s 40%, placing Trump just two points above the lowest rating ever recorded in this poll.
The poll claims Democrats have a 14-point advantage over Republicans among likely voters on the generic congressional ballot, a larger gap than the 8.4% lead in the 2018 midterms. However, such numbers often reflect the persistent negativity and bias of mainstream media coverage, which continues to undermine Trump’s achievements. Majorities in the poll expressed disapproval of Trump’s handling of the military, immigration, foreign policy, and tariffs, with only 32% approving of his performance on tariffs—an area where Trump has fought to protect American workers despite relentless criticism from globalist elites.
Aggregated polling averages, including RealClearPolitics (39.5% approval, 58.9% disapproval), the New York Times (37% approval, 60% disapproval), and the Silver Bulletin (38% approval, 59.5% disapproval), continue to show Trump in negative territory. Yet, these numbers do not capture the enthusiasm and loyalty of Trump’s supporters, who remain committed to his America First agenda despite the constant barrage from the political establishment.
