Poll aggregators show President Donald Trump's net approval rating at minus 22.4, the lowest point for any U.S. president at this stage of their term since 1945.
President Donald Trump’s net approval rating has dropped to minus 22.4, according to Nate Silver’s tracker and VoteHub’s polling average, marking the lowest figure for any president at a comparable point since systematic polling began in 1945. The rating reflects an approval level of 37.6 percent against roughly 60 percent disapproval.
"Trump now has the lowest net approval of any president at this point or earlier in their presidency since polling began in 1945," VoteHub head of data science Zachary Donnini wrote on X.
The decline is more than double the minus 11.6 recorded at the same stage of Trump’s first term in 2018 and exceeds Joe Biden’s minus 9.6 at a similar point. Analysts note that while the figure does not predict election outcomes, it indicates broader and more entrenched opposition.
Data show that among respondents with strong opinions, Trump’s net rating is minus 29.4, whereas weakly held approval remains slightly positive. This suggests that a portion of his support is tentative, while opposition is concentrated among voters with firm disapproval.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle previously described the 2024 election as the "ultimate poll" and claimed the president had achieved historic progress on jobs, inflation and housing affordability, but the administration has not responded to requests for comment on the latest polling figures.
The record-low rating could affect Republican candidates in upcoming midterm races, as they may need to balance loyalty to the president with the risk of alienating voters who are strongly dissatisfied with his performance.
