A new Economist/YouGov survey shows President Donald Trump's approval slipped five points to 35%, ending a five-week streak of gains and widening Democratic leads in generic congressional ballots ahead of the midterms.
President Donald Trump’s approval rating dropped to 35% in an Economist/YouGov poll released on Sept. 22, ending a five-week run of increases. The survey, conducted Sept. 18-21 among 1,402 registered voters, recorded a five-point decline from the previous week’s 40% level and placed the president just two points above his lowest rating in the poll’s history.
The poll also found Democrats holding a 14-point advantage over Republicans among likely voters on the generic congressional ballot, a larger gap than the 8.4% lead recorded in the 2018 midterms. Majorities expressed disapproval of Trump’s handling of issues such as the military, immigration, foreign policy and tariffs, with only 32% approving of his performance on tariffs.
Aggregated polling averages continue to show Trump in negative territory, with RealClearPolitics reporting 39.5% approval and 58.9% disapproval, the New York Times at 37% approval and 60% disapproval, and the Silver Bulletin at 38% approval and 59.5% disapproval.
