Former champion criticizes Gable Steveson's corner after rapid knockout at UFC 331

Resumen

Ex-UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman said Steveson's cornermen should have urged him to continue fighting after his 12-second knockout loss at UFC 331.

Gable Steveson, the Olympic gold-medal wrestler with a 4-1 MMA record, suffered a 12-second knockout by Sean Sharaf at UFC 331 in Los Angeles. The loss, one of the fastest in UFC history, prompted criticism of Steveson's decision to leave the octagon before Sharaf’s hand was raised.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, speaking on the "Deep Waters" podcast, blamed Steveson's corner for not intervening. > "If you ran off the mat before that guy's got his hand raised, your coaches should be beating your ass. He's got the most experienced damn corner you could have. He's got Greg Jackson, you got the pad holder (Gibson), I love him to death, and Jon Jones. ... Unless a doctor was pulling him out, those cornermen should have been like, 'Nah, you've got to get back in there.'" Weidman added that the experience should be humbling and a learning opportunity for the young fighter.
