Maxx Crosby defends Caleb Williams after hamstring injury reaction
Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby said quarterback Caleb Williams' visible distress after a non-contact hamstring injury was understandable, and expressed confidence in his recovery.
Quarterback Caleb Williams left Sunday’s game after suffering a non-contact hamstring strain, prompting visible pain and an emotional exit that raised concerns among Chicago Bears fans. The team later clarified the injury was minor and did not rule him out for the upcoming Week 3 matchup.
Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby defended Williams’ reaction, noting that a first-time hamstring injury can be shocking. > "You know, everyone has an opinion about 'oh, why do you react this way to this certain type of thing?' He might have never pulled a hammy in his life. I've had one hammy thing a while back and, like, that will freak you out when it first happens. In his head, he probably imagined, like, 'Oh, something really bad just happened.' And you have all these emotions and things going on."
Crosby added that the Bears and their supporters could expect Williams to recover, saying, "We know you'll bounce back."
Williams has not missed a game in his NFL career, despite enduring a high number of sacks as a rookie. The Bears also face uncertainty at backup quarterback, with Tyson Bagent dealing with a concussion, leaving veteran Case Keenum as a possible option for the Week 3 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.
