Cardinals coach says Marvin Harrison Jr.'s low target count early in season is not a cause for concern

Résumé

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has been targeted only four times in the first two games, but head coach Mike LaFleur attributes it to game flow and defensive factors rather than the rookie's performance.

Arizona wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 draft, recorded just one reception for 33 yards and was targeted four times over the first two games of the season, despite playing 77 percent of the offense's snaps. The limited usage came against a Seattle defense that has been strong since the previous season, and the Cardinals managed only 95 passing yards on 28 attempts in that loss.

Head coach Mike LaFleur downplayed the low target count, noting that the team "didn’t throw the ball for crap anyway" and emphasizing that the situation does not reflect a lack of effort from Harrison. > "I don’t see it that way. I think his running style is different than some other people’s — I would say that," LaFleur said. > "It’s a long season — we’re two games in. There were some opportunities yesterday that I thought either the defense dictated that it couldn’t go there or just self-inflicted wounds — it was kind of 50-50."

The Cardinals will look to increase Harrison’s involvement when they face division rival San Francisco in Week 3.
